The TEKTELIC KONA Macro Ex (MITX3LEU868) is the most heavily certified outdoor LoRaWAN gateway in the KONA range, designed for installation directly inside hazardous areas — ATEX Zone 1 (gas), Zone 21 (dust), IECEx, and Class I/II Division 1 classified locations such as oil & gas pipelines, refineries, chemical processing plants, mining sites, and grain handling facilities. This EU868 TDD LTE variant ships with a 2.5 dBi LoRa antenna kit and provides 16 Rx and 2 Tx channels at 27 dBm Tx power and −142 dBm Rx sensitivity, with dual antenna ports for Main and Diversity reception. The integrated highly selective adaptive cavity bandpass filters deliver 75 dB Tx-to-Rx isolation and exceptional out-of-band rejection, while the enhanced radio design extends coverage in challenging RF environments. Built around a custom 4X / IP66 enclosure optimized for airflow and heat dissipation, it operates from −40 to +60 °C. Powered via PoE+ (802.3at) or direct 48 VDC terminal block (15 W max), with built-in LTE backhaul, GPS holdover, and rugged M25 cable glands.

Bundle includes 2.5 dBi LoRa antenna kit: This product includes the KONA Macro Ex gateway and a 2.5 dBi LoRa antenna kit (Tektelic-assessed simple apparatus per IEC 60079-11). For higher-gain deployments, the MITX6LEU868 variant ships with a 6 dBi antenna kit instead.


Additional antennas: A GPS antenna with N-Type male connector is required for time synchronization, and an LTE antenna with N-Type male connector is required for cellular backhaul (both sold separately). LoRa antenna gain must not exceed 6 dBi; cellular antenna gain must not exceed 2 dBi (EIRP limits per CSA/UL 60079-0).


Hazardous area installation: This gateway is certified for use in ATEX Zone 1 (gas) and Zone 21 (dust), IECEx, and Class I/II Division 1 classified locations. Installation, operation, and maintenance must comply with the applicable hazardous area standards and must only be performed by qualified personnel familiar with explosion-protected equipment.


General installation requirements: Professional installation by trained RF technicians is required. The gateway must be properly earth-grounded before any other interface is connected. At 15 kg, the gateway requires two installers and a mounting structure capable of supporting at least the system weight plus dynamic loads.
